Curricular & Co-Curricular Activities

We believe Curriculum transaction is the most important process of an education system and if it is implemented well in the pre-service program  it will produce quality teaching professionals. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and follows the curriculum and syllabus prescribed by the university. The teaching faculty of the college is competent and skilled and uses various strategies and approaches to make learning constructivist and inquiry based. Film reviews, games, flipped classroom, panel discussions, seminar paper readings, case studies integrated with the use of technology has helped to create a student engaged classroom.  

Methods of Teaching

The teaching faculty of the college is competent and uses various strategies for teaching to make learning meaningful. There is a huge repertoire of methods and strategies that are generally student centric for student engagement and deep learning. The impact of the strategies has been found to make seamless learning and naturalize into their teaching profession on the student teachers when they pass out.
The various strategies are social constructivism, debates, film viewing, film making, drama, dramatics, music , poetry reading, poetry writing, flipped classroom, writing blogs, online learning and many more that involve a judicious blend of technology along with the sensitivities of human performance face to face.
The curriculum transaction is the backbone of any educational programme, hence no stone has been left unturned over the past 50 years of the institute’s teaching history. We cater to the diverse needs of the students and keep our teaching as contemporory as possible so that the methods of teaching correspond to societal needs.

Evaluation & Assessment

 Within the framework of the university norms the college endeavors to explore and introduce interesting ideas through participation in syllabus making and leading the way for creative assessments. Peer assessments, self assessments, book reviews, quiz on Moodle or Kahoot are interesting ways that engage student teachers. Rubrics for more precise assessment is encouraged and developed by faculty and students for theme based lessons, active learning Methodology, Concept attainment, Nai talim lessons etc.  we use Moodle as a learning management system to provide a platform for individualized learning.   The access to study materials, reference readings, extra information for beyond curriculum knowledge keeps a diverse group of students engaged and interested in their teaching profession.

Moodle

Moodle is a learning management system that facilitates flipped classroom strategies, content delivery, student engagement, computerized testing and many more. Due to Moodle the teacher has one to one correspondence with each student. This system helps to track student development and also caters to individualized attention. The access to study materials, reference readings, extra information for beyond curriculum knowledge keeps a diverse group of students engaged and interested in their teaching profession. The college is the first to adopt Moodle as learning management system and has very positive experience of its usage.

Information and Communication Technology (lCT)

The institution has an excellent computer laboratory with a LAN System & Internet connection. The institution has also installed Moodle a learning management system that encourages students to learn independently. Training in CAI’s, Geogebra, NetLogo and Google earth is a key feature in the training inputs for students for ICT. The focus is on ensuring that the students use ICT effectively in their teaching career.

 Action Research Projects

At KKCE, the faculty encourages the students to undertake meaningful educational projects based on action research. Several social focus projects are initiated in the area of health education like anti-addiction program, sanitation.  Other areas for action research are co-teaching for inclusion, appreciation of the indigenous culture like Indian games, heritage of India, role of media in education, Evaluative projects etc .

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In order to broaden the perspective of the students and provide enriching experiences, the institution organizes a number of co-curricular activities:

1) Yoga Training

Experienced resource persons are invited to provide Yoga training to all the students to ensure a healthy mind in a healthy body. It is a short certificate course. It is an additional qualification for our students. The Yoga training is also extended to the non teaching and support staff of the entire campus.

2) First-Aid Program

A Basic First Respondent Training program is conducted for all students by the Disaster Management Cell, BMC, where the students are given hands-on training in administering First-Aid. This equips the students in handling medical emergencies in their teaching careers.

3) Community Work

Community work is a part of the curriculum.  Institution collaborates with several different organizations to place students in varied environments like working with the underprivileged sections of the society, with the mentally and physically challenged children, with environment centres for tree plantation, old age homes etc. The whole experience is designed to sensitize students to the needs of society and the role of the teacher towards the disadvantaged section of the society.

4) Visits

In order to make learning experiential and fun and to learn from nature and environment  a number of visits are arranged to places of Educational importance like the Homi Bhabha Centre for science Education, Nehru Centre, Nehru Planetarium and the Chatrapati Shivaji Museum, the Numismatics museum. Nature trails, a visit to a ecological centre like Saguna Baug at Neral. Our outdoor visits are an integral part of the teacher education program. A week long educational visit to outside the city of Mumbai is a regular feature of the institution.

5) Cultural Programs

The institution promotes cultural engagement for students through the student council programs. Variety of programs, competitions (in house as well as intercollegiate) is organized and student participation is encouraged.

6) Annual Sports

To develop the student teachers physically well as mentally sports are conducted annually.
