The counseling cell of the college was set up with the aim of nurturing the mental health of the KKCE family. The cell is housed in a separate cabin on the premises of the college. A part time professional counselor as well as the faculty in-charge of the counseling cell carry out the various activities of the cell.
The institution aims to foster a spirit of resilience and positive mindset in its student teachers. The process involves a diagnosis of the issues that student teachers would face in personal, academic as well as future professional life , and helping them to deal with these issues.
The different activities carried out in the counseling cell are:
All students undergo personality testing. Individual counseling sessions are held to support the students deal with their challenges. Group counseling sessions help the students with common issues, like study skills. The counselor as well as the faculty conduct workshops for the students on issues like communication skills, management of difficult emotions etc. Expert resource persons are invited for workshops and guest lectures on topics like handling adolescent sexuality.
The counseling cell is well equipped with various psychological tests, which are also given for use to research scholars on lending basis. These tests are used for individual testing of the students.
The counseling cell also conducts aptitude testing and provides career guidance. This service is extended to the community. The alumni of the institution are also provided with counseling services.
Keeping in mind that positive mental health of the teaching as well as the non teaching staff is crucial for the institution; the counseling cell provides need based counseling to the staff. Workshops are conducted for the non-teaching staff to help them deal with their issues.
Thus, the counseling cell of KKCE strives for a balanced mental health of all members of the KKCE family.
