Women’s Cell
The Women’s Cell of KKCE has a dual responsibility of not only handling cases of grievances of female students on campus but also taking the initiative to organize activities on women empowerment. It aims at creating awareness and understanding about women’s issues, gender discrimination, and sexual harassment; and also helps students become aware of legal options available in such cases. The cell organizes awareness sessions as well as welfare workshops/lectures to sensitize the aspiring teachers towards gender issues and its far reaching consequences in the society.
Awareness Initiatives
Several initiatives like mobile film making on gender issues, screening of films like Q to P, Sandra from Bandra and Juice (in college); going to theatres for movies like Pink and Thappad have been done in the past few years. The heart of such activities is the discussion that follows.
Other initiatives like dances, dramas/skits, lectures on women’s health, women’s rights and their safety are also organized from time to time. We also organize training in self-defense through workshops for our students.
International Women’s Day is celebrated differently every year. In 2017, a talk was organized titled “Smt. Kapilaben Khandvala and her Contribution to Women’s Empowerment in India and Australia” by faculty from UTS, Sydney who were researching on her life. In 2020, it was celebrated with weeklong curricular and co-curricular activities centering around the theme of Women Empowerment.
Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell
The Women’s Cell also acts as a redressal mechanism. Ay female employee – academic/non-academic (including temporary, contractual or casual employee) or female student of Smt. Kapila Khandvala College of Education, Santacruz (W), Mumbai, can approach the cell with a grievance. Students are oriented to the existence of the Cells, its constitution and functioning through an orientation when they join the college.
